Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a special cleanliness campaign ahead of Navratri and Durga Puja, with an emphasis on night-time cleaning around puja pandals.
Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar directed all six zones—Nutan Rajdhani, Pataliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad and Patna City—to step up cleaning measures in public places. Zonal executive officers will be responsible for continuous monitoring to ensure the city remains both garbage-free and plastic-free during the festivities.
“The amount of garbage increases after the fair during Durga Puja, so zonal officers must monitor through special teams. This time the festival has to be garbage-free and plastic-free,” Parashar said in the meeting.
Under the campaign, several measures have been outlined:
-
Lime bleaching powder will be stocked in all zones.
-
Lighting complaints will be resolved locally.
-
Door-to-door garbage collection vehicles will be ensured in all wards.
-
Zero waste pandals will be set up and honoured.
-
Swachhata Kalash will be installed in every pandal to collect worship waste.
-
Bottle banks will be placed for used plastic bottles.
-
Awareness teams will be deployed at public places.
-
PMC vehicles will collect the Swachhata Kalash.
-
Citizens can report littering through helpline number 155304 or the PMC WhatsApp chatbot.
Special monitoring teams with additional staff and vehicles will carry out night inspections and surprise checks. PMC has appealed to citizens to throw waste only in designated bins and avoid plastic, stressing the campaign’s motto: “My city, my responsibility.”
The meeting was attended by the additional municipal commissioner, deputy municipal commissioner, executive officers of all zones, ward nodal officers and PMC staff.
