Patna: With the festival of Rakshabandhan set to be celebrated on August 9, India Post has launched special services to ensure timely delivery of rakhis across the country and abroad. In Patna, the postal department has introduced waterproof envelopes and extended counter hours to manage the festive rush.
Special counters have been set up at Patna’s General Post Office (GPO), operating in two shifts from 8am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm, and will remain open even on Sundays. These counters are facilitating the dispatch of around 3,000 rakhis daily, with approximately 1,000 international bookings already processed.
To protect the rakhis from monsoon moisture, waterproof envelopes priced at Rs 10 are available. The department has stocked around 10,000 of these. For added convenience, customers can also purchase boxes that allow the inclusion of sweets, kumkum and other puja items alongside the rakhi.
India Post officials said that domestic rakhis sent via speed post will reach destinations such as Delhi and Mumbai within 24 hours. For international deliveries, the expected timeframe ranges from three to six days, depending on the destination.
Additionally, a tracking facility is available for all consignments sent through speed post and registered post. Customers can monitor the delivery status using the 13-digit tracking number provided on the receipt via India Post’s website or mobile app. The cost of dispatch will vary based on the parcel’s weight and destination.
