Patna: The Bihar government is planning to establish a large industrial park spread across nearly 1,300 acres in Samastipur district as part of its broader push to accelerate industrial development and attract investment across the state.
The proposed industrial hub will involve land acquisition in several blocks, including Khanpur, Morwa and Tajpur. Officials believe the project could transform Samastipur into a major industrial centre in north Bihar and create significant employment opportunities for local residents.
480 Acres Identified in Khanpur
According to officials, around 480 acres of land in Khanpur block have been identified for acquisition for the industrial park. Approval for the acquisition process has reportedly been sought from the state finance authorities.
Once the required permissions are granted, the process of developing the industrial park is expected to begin.
At present, only about 47 acres of land are available for industrial development in the district, which officials consider insufficient for the scale of investment and infrastructure being planned.
Survey Conducted Before Selection
Sources said the District Industries Centre prepared the proposal after surveying multiple locations across the district.
Following inspections by departmental officials, Khanpur emerged as a preferred location due to the availability of large contiguous land parcels. Morwa has also been identified as a suitable site for industrial expansion.
Meanwhile, Tajpur already hosts several small-scale industrial units, making it a potential support zone for future industrial growth.
Employment and Investment Expected
Officials expect the industrial park to attract new investments and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for local youth.
The project is also expected to benefit farmers, traders and small businesses by creating stronger market linkages and increasing demand for local produce.
Focus on Agro and Food Processing Industries
Industry experts believe Samastipur is well suited for agriculture-based and food-processing industries because of its strong agricultural economy.
The district is already known for agricultural production and jute-related activities. The proposed industrial park could help diversify the local economy, encourage value-added manufacturing and strengthen the district’s industrial base over the long term.
What Happens Next?
The project is currently in the land acquisition and approval stage. Once government clearances are completed, authorities are expected to begin the process of developing infrastructure and inviting industrial investment for the proposed park.
