Patna: The district administration has announced that traffic movement on three major pontoon bridges over the Ganga will be suspended from June 15, following rising water level forecasts during the monsoon season.
The decision, issued through a notification by the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited, has been communicated via the Patna Collectorate.
Bridges to Be Closed
According to the official order, movement will stop on the following temporary crossings:
- Kachchi Dargah–Rustampur pontoon bridge
- Gyaspur–Kaladiyara pontoon bridge
- Danapur–Panapur pontoon bridge
These bridges connect key routes between Patna, Vaishali, and Saran districts.
Dismantling Scheduled at Midnight
Officials said all traffic will be completely halted from June 15, after which dismantling work will begin at midnight.
The temporary structures will be removed to prevent damage caused by rising water levels and strong currents in the Ganga River during the monsoon period.
Annual Seasonal Practice
Pontoon bridges are installed during periods of normal river flow to facilitate connectivity across the Ganga. They are routinely dismantled each year ahead of the monsoon as a precautionary safety measure.
Authorities said the bridges are reinstalled once water levels return to normal and conditions stabilise.
Advisory for Commuters
The administration has advised residents to avoid planning travel via these routes after June 15.
Commuters have been urged to use permanent bridges and alternative routes to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the monsoon season.
Officials stated that the decision has been taken solely in the interest of public safety amid anticipated rise in the river’s water level.
