Patna: On the third day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav marched through Nawada, protesting alleged irregularities in the voter list ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
Addressing supporters, Gandhi claimed that “lakhs of names” had been removed from the voter list and accused the Election Commission of being in partnership with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “The Constitution guarantees rights to everyone, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are snatching them away,” he said, alleging that similar voter manipulation had occurred in Maharashtra during recent elections.
The convoy reached Nawada around 11.15 am, where Gandhi met Subodh Singh, a local whose name was reportedly missing from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) draft voter list. Tejashwi Yadav said Gandhi would become Prime Minister in the next Lok Sabha elections and accused the Election Commission of declaring registered voters as deceased.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi stopped in Wazirganj to meet schoolchildren holding the national flag, handing out toffees and greeting them warmly. Passing through Hisua, he acknowledged BJP protesters with a wave and thumbs-up as slogans were raised from inside a police station.
The yatra entered Nawada district at Tungi Bazar via NH-20, receiving a warm reception from Grand Alliance supporters waving flags and banners along the route. Leaders and local residents formed human chains, chanting slogans in support of the Voter Adhikar Yatra, which continued its journey through Hisua and Manjhawa markets.
