Patna: Bihar government has approved a major green energy project in West Champaran, with Bharat GPS Bioenergy Pvt. Ltd. set to establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Kumarbagh Industrial Area as part of the state’s push towards sustainable industrial development and renewable energy generation.
The project, which involves an investment of approximately Rs 120.74 crore, received approval during a meeting of the Project Clearance Committee (PCC) of the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA).
The meeting was chaired by Kundan Kumar, Secretary of the Industries Department and Managing Director of BIADA and the Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA).
Green Energy Project Cleared
The approval forms part of a broader exercise in which the committee considered proposals for land allotment and plug-and-play industrial sheds across various industrial areas in the state.
As part of the decisions taken, Bharat GPS Bioenergy Pvt. Ltd. was granted permission to establish a modern compressed biogas facility at Industrial Area Kumarbagh in West Champaran district.
Officials said the project would be developed over approximately 15 acres of land.
Converting Agricultural Waste Into Energy
According to project details, the facility will produce compressed biogas through the scientific processing of agricultural residues and organic waste.
The plant is expected to contribute to Bihar’s renewable energy capacity while addressing environmental concerns associated with agricultural waste disposal.
Officials said the project would support both energy security and environmental conservation by generating clean fuel from locally available biomass resources.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen the state’s efforts to promote circular economy practices and sustainable industrial growth.
Employment And Rural Benefits
The project is expected to create around 370 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Officials said the investment would generate new avenues for employment and skill development for local youth while supporting economic activity in the region.
Farmers are also expected to benefit through additional income opportunities linked to the supply of agricultural residues that would otherwise have limited commercial value.
The project is expected to create a market for biomass and organic waste, potentially increasing returns for rural producers.
Bihar Pushes Green Industrialisation
Industries Minister Shreyasi Singh said the Bihar government remains committed to encouraging green energy projects and environmentally sustainable industries.
She said investments in compressed biogas and other renewable energy initiatives would help create new opportunities for sustainable development, clean energy generation and employment creation.
“The government is continuously working towards establishing Bihar as a leading destination for investment, innovation and green industrial development,” Singh said.
Investor-Friendly Policies
Kundan Kumar said Bihar is seeking to attract investment through improved infrastructure, transparent procedures and investor-friendly policies.
He noted that investments in the green energy sector would contribute not only to industrial growth but also to environmental sustainability and local employment generation.
The approval comes amid increasing national focus on compressed biogas as an alternative fuel source and as part of broader efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while promoting cleaner energy solutions.
Officials said the project is expected to strengthen Bihar’s emerging renewable energy ecosystem and contribute to the state’s long-term sustainability goals.
