Sasaram: Varanasi-Aurangabad NH-2 Tollway Private Limited has inaugurated a 200 kW solar power plant at the Sasaram toll plaza in Bihar, aimed at powering toll operations through renewable energy.
The project has been developed by Spanish infrastructure company Roadis and became operational after completing technical checks and commissioning, following a trial phase in May 2026.
Energy Output and Emission Reduction
According to company estimates, the solar installation is expected to generate around 2.92 lakh units of electricity annually.
The project is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 239 tonnes each year. The system uses bi-directional net metering technology, allowing surplus electricity to be fed into the local power grid.
Company Statement and ESG Commitment
Speaking at the inauguration, company official Ashwani Sharma described the project as a significant milestone in integrating renewable energy with highway operations.
He said balancing infrastructure growth with environmental conservation is increasingly essential, adding that the initiative supports the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments.
Highway Development and Wider Initiatives
Varanasi-Aurangabad NH-2 Tollway Private Limited is currently involved in the construction, operation and maintenance of a 192-km, six-lane highway connecting Varanasi and Aurangabad.
The company also runs social initiatives focused on education, sports and healthcare, aiming to support regional development alongside infrastructure expansion.
