Patna To Implement Zone-Wise Auto Colour Coding From April 1 To Ease Traffic Congestion

Patna: The Patna administration has completed preparations for implementing a zone-wise colour coding system for auto-rickshaws, set to take effect from April 1. The initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion by streamlining auto movement within designated areas. Under the new system, autos and e-rickshaws will be categorised into green, yellow, and blue zones, each with specific routes and designated stops.

Breakdown of the New Zoning System:

  • Green Zone: Covering the eastern and central parts of Patna, this zone will have 18 designated stops, including Patna Junction, Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar Railway Station, ISBT Bairia, and Zero Mile. Around 5,240 autos have been finalised for operation in this zone, down from the current 6,550.
  • Yellow Zone: The busiest zone in the city, catering to over 25,000 daily passengers, primarily serving the western parts of Patna. Key stops include Rajabazar, Ashiana, Boring Road, Saguna Mor, and Hajipur. The number of autos has been reduced from 4,350 to 3,480 for efficient operations.
  • Blue Zone: Covering limited stops such as GPO, Gardanibagh, Anisabad, Phulwarisharif, and Birla Colony, autos will operate in only seven locations under this category.

To facilitate smoother traffic flow, dedicated parking spaces for autos and e-rickshaws will be set up at key points such as Cheena Kothi, Gandhi Maidan Rain Basera, GPO, and Agamkuan, according to Raj Kumar Jha, General Secretary of the Auto- Rickshaw Transport Federation.
