Patna: Astrologers in India say Pitru Dosha – an ancestral affliction described in astrology and Puranic texts – can have a profound impact on family life, manifesting in disputes, financial instability and lack of peace at home.
According to astrologers, the condition is believed to arise when the souls of ancestors remain dissatisfied or when unfinished deeds affect their descendants. He claims Pitru Dosha is “more dangerous than Kaal”, as it is said to influence happiness, mental stability and economic wellbeing.
He says common signs include family feuds, recurring financial losses, obstacles in children’s progress and a prolonged absence of success in professional life. “Such families gradually sink into sadness and stress, whereas earlier there used to be a cheerful atmosphere,” he said.
The period of Pitru Paksha – a fortnight dedicated to ancestral rituals – is considered the most auspicious time for seeking relief. In 2025, Pitru Paksha will begin with Purnima Shradh on September 7 and conclude with Sarvapitri Amavasya on September 21. Rituals such as tarpan (offerings of water mixed with barley, sesame and flowers), pind daan (food offerings to ancestors), and chanting of mantras are regarded as essential during this time.
Among the recommended remedies are:
- Shodash Pind Daan: offerings to ancestors on the banks of a holy river.
- Snake worship: often linked to Kaal Sarp Dosh.
- Donation: gifts of food, clothes or a cow to a Brahmin.
- Tree plantation: planting a Peepal or Banyan tree.
- Daily chants: reciting “Om Namah Bhagwate Vasudevay” or “Om Namah Shivay” while lighting a lamp.
Mantras such as “Om Shri Pitrubhyo Namah” and “Om Pitrudevatabhyo Namah” are also advised for peace. Performing these rituals with faith can bring harmony, prosperity and renewed stability to affected families.
