Muzaffarpur: A 25-year-old doctor from Muzaffarpur died by suicide on Friday evening after shooting himself in the head with his father’s licensed double-barrelled gun.
Ashutosh Chandra, who had recently joined a private hospital in Juran Chapra, ended his life at his home in Jaitpur Estate Colony around 7.15 pm. Police said he was under stress after failing to clear his postgraduate medical entrance examination, results of which were declared about a week ago.
The incident occurred shortly after Ashutosh returned home from work, shared a meal with his mother and grandmother, and went to his study room. His body was found on the floor with the weapon on the bed beside him. Investigators recovered his mobile phone, books and tablet from the room but did not find a suicide note.
Ashutosh, a graduate of Agra Medical College, was the only son in the family. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, one of whom is also a doctor. Police have conducted a postmortem and handed over the body to the family. An investigation is underway.
