Patna: In a bid to maintain cleanliness along the Ganga River during the Chhath festival, Patna Municipal Corporation has installed “Swachhata Kalash” at several ghats, allowing devotees to place flowers, garlands, lamps, and other puja materials after rituals instead of immersing them directly in the river.
The initiative is part of the city administration’s efforts to prevent pollution and promote environmental protection. Teams from the municipal corporation will empty and clean the Swachhata Kalash daily to ensure the Ganga remains unpolluted.
“Chhath is a confluence of faith, purity, and cleanliness. Patna Municipal Corporation is making every effort to provide a convenient and clean environment for devotees. The Swachhata Kalash at the Ganga Ghat is a meaningful step in this direction,” said Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena.
Devotees are urged to place their puja offerings in the Kalash rather than directly into the river to support the initiative. The Swachhata Kalash have been installed at five ghats: Collectorate Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Kangan Ghat, Bhadra Ghat, and 93 Ghat.
