Patna: Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar has proceeded on 21 days of leave, with 1991-batch IPS officer Preeta Verma given additional charge as acting DGP.
The Home Department issued a notification on Tuesday evening. According to departmental information, Kumar has been granted leave from September 15 to October 5 due to unavoidable personal and health-related reasons.
Preeta Verma to Hold Additional Charge
Verma, a senior Bihar-cadre IPS officer, currently serves as Director General of Home Guards and Fire Services.
During Kumar’s absence, she will oversee the responsibilities of the DGP’s office at Police Headquarters alongside her existing charge. Her additional responsibility will continue until the DGP returns.
Former DGP KS Dwivedi Also on Leave
Meanwhile, KS Dwivedi, chairman of the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) and a former Bihar DGP, has also proceeded on month-long leave.
Dwivedi’s leave comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Sub-Inspector recruitment examination, prompting speculation about the timing of his absence.
According to sources, however, he has taken leave because of his wife’s health issues.
The developments come as the state police administration continues to manage key responsibilities at both the police headquarters and the BPSSC during the festive recruitment and examination season.
