Landmark MoU Between IIM Bodh Gaya and NIDM Aims to Fortify India’s Disaster Management
Delhi/Bodh Gaya, 16th October 2023: On October 13, a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between IIM Bodh Gaya and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), a body under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The agreement, formally signed in New Delhi by Prof. Vineeta S. Sahay, Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, and Rajendra Ratnu, IAS, Executive Director of NIDM, sets the stage for a robust alliance aimed at bolstering disaster management capabilities in India.
This pivotal partnership is poised to explore a gamut of initiatives across disaster preparedness, response, and resilience. Collaborative undertakings will range from joint research and academic training to workshops, seminars, and capacity-building programs. Both institutions are committed to leveraging their collective resources and expertise to address pressing challenges in disaster management.
Specifically, the alliance will target core issues such as “crisis and emergency risk management,” “emergency planning and disaster risk management,” and “humanitarian operations.” These efforts are designed to build a robust framework for effective disaster response.
Moreover, this MoU aligns perfectly with both national and global priorities. It echoes the ten-point agenda laid out by India’s Prime Minister, with a special focus on global climate change adaptation strategies. This collaboration also aligns with international frameworks like the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) and aims to contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By embracing these key objectives, IIM Bodh Gaya and NIDM aim to stimulate innovation, enhance capacity, and inform decision-making for local risk reduction and protection.
