Patna: Union home minister Amit Shah arrived in Patna on Thursday as Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar prepared to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, a move that has triggered intense political debate in the state.
Shah reached the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin Nabin shortly after arriving in the city. After a brief visit lasting about five minutes, he proceeded to the chief minister’s official residence at 1 Aney Marg.
Within minutes of greeting each other, Shah and Kumar, accompanied by senior leaders including deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary, Nitin Nabin and JD(U) leaders, left together for the Bihar legislative assembly to complete the nomination process.
Kumar, Nabin, JD(U) leader Ramnath Thakur and BJP candidate Shivesh Kumar were present at the assembly to submit their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections.

Earlier in the day, Kumar confirmed his decision to move to the Upper House of Parliament through a post on X. In the message, he said the move fulfilled a long-standing personal aspiration.
“Since the beginning of my parliamentary career, I have desired to become a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislature and of Parliament. In this regard, I am seeking to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in this election,” Kumar wrote.
He added that he would continue to support Bihar’s development even after moving to Parliament. “I sincerely assure you that this relationship with you will continue in the future, and my resolve to work together to build a developed Bihar will remain unwavering. The new government that will be formed will receive my full support and guidance,” he said.
The developments have sparked widespread political discussion in Bihar, as Kumar’s potential transition to national politics raises questions about the future leadership of the state government.
