Bhagalpur: The Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation is preparing to issue a Rs 200 crore tender aimed at revamping the city’s sanitation system, with plans to appoint a new agency for a four-year period.
The decision was finalised during a key meeting held at the Smart City Pvt Ltd auditorium, where officials and elected representatives discussed and agreed on major provisions to be included in the tender document.
Among those present were city commissioner Kisalay Kushwaha, mayor Dr Vasundhara Lal and other senior officials. The meeting focused on making the sanitation system more accountable and efficient in line with government guidelines.
Under the proposed plan, the city will be divided into two operational clusters to improve monitoring and execution. The first cluster will cover wards 1 to 26, while the second will include wards 27 to 51.
Cleaning operations will be carried out in three shifts — morning, afternoon and night — to ensure continuous sanitation coverage. Authorities have also decided that cleaning work will continue on Sundays to prevent garbage accumulation.
The new agency will be responsible for door-to-door garbage collection from households as well as commercial establishments, including shops, hotels and other businesses, with the aim of reducing roadside dumping.
Officials said the cluster-based approach would allow better supervision and enable swift action in cases of negligence, improving overall service delivery.
To tackle waterlogging, the municipal corporation also plans to deploy separate teams for drain cleaning. Each team will consist of five workers tasked with regular maintenance of drainage systems.
Mayor Vasundhara Lal said the initiative aims to make Bhagalpur a garbage-free and waterlogging-free city, adding that the new system is expected to bring comprehensive improvements in urban sanitation.
