Patna: The Bihar government is moving closer to launching an ambitious Education City project in the Fatuha industrial area of Patna district, with more than 600 acres of land identified for the proposed integrated higher education hub.
The Department of Revenue and Land Reforms has completed the process of identifying land for the project, removing one of the major hurdles that had delayed its implementation. The proposal had already received approval from the state cabinet on December 16, 2025, but progress had been held up by land-related issues.
Officials estimate that the project will attract investment exceeding Rs 1,000 crore and is expected to create a world-class ecosystem for higher education, research and employment generation in Bihar.
Land Hurdles Cleared
The state government is considering implementing the project through a public-private partnership (PPP) model to encourage private investment and bring global expertise into the development of the campus. The proposed Education City is expected to draw inspiration from international education hubs and incorporate global best practices in academic infrastructure and governance.
The identification of land in the Fatuha industrial area marks a significant step forward for the project, which had remained stalled despite receiving cabinet approval due to unresolved land-related issues.
Shared Campus Model
According to the Education Department’s vision, the campus will function as a shared education hub where universities and colleges can retain their individual identities while benefiting from common facilities and infrastructure. The model is intended to encourage collaboration among institutions and improve access to quality education for students from Bihar and across the country.
Officials believe the concept will allow institutions to reduce duplication of resources while providing students with access to a broader range of academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Focus On Industry And Employment
A key component of the project is the planned involvement of corporate institutions and the industrial sector. The government hopes stronger industry-academia collaboration will help improve the quality of higher education and better align academic programmes with employment opportunities.
The campus is expected to offer industry linkages, skill-development opportunities and advanced academic programmes designed to enhance employability and foster innovation among students.
Modern Infrastructure And Facilities
The proposed Education City will feature smart classrooms, digital libraries, research centres, student hostels, sports complexes and residential accommodation for faculty members. The integrated design aims to provide students with access to education, training, research and co-curricular activities within a single location.
Officials say the campus will be developed with modern urban infrastructure and technology-enabled learning facilities to meet international standards.
Official believe the initiative could help position Bihar as a major destination for higher education and research in eastern India. By attracting students, researchers and private investment, the project is expected to contribute to the state’s long-term economic and human resource development goals.
