Patna: Violence broke out in Patna on Friday when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers forced their way into the Congress headquarters at Sadakat Ashram. The clash followed a controversy over remarks allegedly made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother during Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing Voter Rights Yatra. What began as a protest quickly escalated into a street battle, with party workers using sticks and bricks against each other.
The incident started when a large group of BJP workers, led by minister Nitin Naveen and Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, marched from Kurji Hospital towards the Congress office. The demonstration was organised to condemn the alleged comments against the Prime Minister. As the march reached Sadakat Ashram, BJP workers began shouting slogans and pushing against the gates of the Congress office. Within minutes, they broke through and entered the premises, triggering chaos.
Once inside, BJP workers clashed with Congress supporters, leading to a violent confrontation. In the process, parts of the Congress office were damaged, and several vehicles parked on the roadside were vandalised. Videos from the scene show workers from both parties attacking each other with sticks and stones while police struggled to control the situation. The sudden outburst of violence created panic in the area, forcing authorities to deploy additional security forces to prevent the situation from worsening.
Following the clashes, Congress workers staged a sit-in protest on the road outside the ashram, accusing BJP of deliberately attacking their office. They claimed that the ruling party was using the alleged remarks as an excuse to intimidate the opposition. The BJP, on the other hand, defended its protest, insisting that no insult to Prime Minister Modi or his mother would be tolerated. Leaders of the party said their workers had every right to express their anger, even as police began an investigation into the violence.
