Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a status report to a special court in connection with the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna, as the probe into the high-profile case continues to intensify. The next hearing has been scheduled for June 1.
The report was placed before the court of Special Judge (POCSO Act) Rajiv Ranjan Raman on Friday, detailing the progress made so far in the investigation. According to the agency, multiple strands of evidence are currently being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The CBI told the court that medical records, prescriptions and other related documents have been forwarded to a multi-institutional medical board in Delhi for an independent expert opinion. The agency is also awaiting and analysing reports from Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), alongside inputs from other medical departments, to determine the cause of death.
In addition, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi has been approached to verify handwriting samples recovered from suspicious documents as part of the inquiry.
The agency also informed the court that forensic examination of nine mobile phones seized during the initial phase of the investigation is underway. This includes two devices belonging to Manish Ranjan, the owner of Shambhu Girls’ Hostel and a key accused in the case. Investigators are analysing call records, chat data and other digital evidence extracted from the devices.
CCTV footage from inside and around the hostel premises is also being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events on the day of the incident.
The court will next hear the matter on June 1 as the investigation continues.
