Patna: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made 75% attendance compulsory for students appearing in the 2026 Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
The board said students falling short of the requirement will not be eligible for internal assessments and will be placed in the “Essential Repeat” category. A recent notice also confirmed that Class 10 students can opt for two additional subjects apart from the compulsory five, while Class 12 students will have the option of one additional subject.
Students participating in national-level sports and Olympiads have been given relief, with the option to appear in a special examination if their competition dates clash with board exams. For Class 10, this second examination will take place in May, while Class 12 students will be allowed to sit in a special examination if the clash occurs.
It is mandatory for all candidates to fill the List of Candidates (LOC) for the main examination. Those appearing in special exams will be permitted only in subjects where dates overlap with sports or Olympiad events. Students in the compartment category can take their examinations in February–March 2026 following the May session.
The board has instructed that students wishing to avail sports-related exemptions must secure prior approval. Guidelines for schools have been issued on the official website.
