Chhapra: Residents of Chhapra in Bihar are set to get a long-awaited modern bus terminal, with construction under way on a three-storey facility expected to be completed by June 2026, officials said.
The Rs 20-crore project, being developed by the district council, aims to ease congestion and improve passenger amenities in the divisional headquarters. Earthwork is currently in progress, and around 20% of the construction has been completed so far, according to officials associated with the project.
The new terminal will be a G+3 structure, with bus services organised across different floors. Inter-state buses will operate from one level, intra-state services from another, and local buses from the third. Authorities say the segregation is intended to streamline operations and reduce traffic pressure in surrounding areas.
Planned facilities at the bus stand include waiting rooms, ticket counters, toilets, drinking water points and parking spaces. Provisions are also being made to improve accessibility for elderly passengers and people with disabilities, including the installation of lifts.
The bus terminal project comes alongside recent upgrades at Chhapra Junction railway station, where a second entry complex has been developed at a cost of Rs 50–55 crore. The new entrance includes a modern building, wider access points, additional ticket counters, waiting areas, lifts and escalators, with improved connectivity to platforms through a foot overbridge.
Together, the two infrastructure projects are expected to significantly improve transport access and passenger convenience in Chhapra over the next few years.
