Patna: Political activity has intensified in Bihar as the National Democratic Alliance moves closer to finalising its candidates for the upcoming elections to 10 vacant seats in the Legislative Council.
With the nomination deadline set for June 8, alliance leaders are expected to announce names within the next two days, while discussions on seat-sharing and strategy continue in Patna.
NDA Strategy and Seat Arithmetic
According to political estimates, the electoral balance in the Legislative Assembly strongly favours the NDA, making its victory in nine out of 10 seats widely anticipated.
The remaining contest is expected to see a limited advantage for the opposition bloc, the Mahagathbandhan, based on current numerical strength in the House.
Among the vacant seats, five are linked to Janata Dal (United), two to Bharatiya Janata Party, two to Rashtriya Janata Dal, and one to Indian National Congress. One additional seat is set to go to by-election.
Nitin Nabin’s Patna Visit
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitin Nabin is scheduled to arrive in Patna on Wednesday for a series of organisational and political consultations.
During his visit, he is expected to meet senior leaders to discuss nomination timelines, candidate selection, and broader electoral strategy, including the upcoming Bankipur Assembly by-election.
Party sources indicate that multiple rounds of meetings will be held at the state, district, and block levels to assess potential candidates and political feedback.
Seat-Sharing Deliberations Within NDA
Seat-sharing discussions within the NDA remain ongoing, with indications that alliance partners may also receive representation.
Sources suggest that one seat could be allocated to the Rashtriya Lok Morcha Rashtriya Lok Morcha, while another may go to the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
The remaining seats are likely to be distributed primarily between the BJP and JD(U), depending on final consensus within the alliance.
Bankipur By-Election Focus
A key focus of Nitin Nabin’s visit is the Bankipur Assembly by-election, where he is expected to play a central role in candidate selection discussions.
The constituency has traditionally been considered a stronghold for him, and consultations are likely to shape the NDA’s local electoral approach.
