Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has stepped up efforts to ensure the city’s streets are well-lit ahead of the festival season, launching the special “Jagmag Patna” initiative to repair damaged streetlights and replace dim or yellow bulbs.
Under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, 33 dedicated teams are patrolling all 19 wards of the city, including night-time rounds, to monitor and maintain street lighting. Each team, comprising an electrician and a supervisor, is equipped with specially fitted vehicles carrying ladders, lights, and other technical tools to address issues quickly.
According to Executive Engineer (Electricity) Babul Kumar Gupta, the teams operate on an on-demand basis, responding immediately to reports of faulty lights. A separate team is devoted to handling complaints, while daily records track the work carried out.
The initiative has already addressed thousands of issues over the past months: 10,512 in June, 8,574 in July, 16,474 in August, and 12,433 up to September 23.
Residents are encouraged to report any streetlight problems to the municipal helpline at 155304, ensuring that repairs are completed promptly.
The campaign aims to improve public safety and convenience during the festive season, with officials emphasising vigilance during the ongoing monsoon period.
