Supaul: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has joined the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar on Tuesday, in what the Congress hopes will be a major push to court women voters ahead of upcoming elections.
The march, organised by the opposition alliance in the state, is centred on the protection of voting rights. Gandhi is expected to participate in events in Supaul and Sitamarhi during her two-day visit. She will also travel to Darbhanga via Madhubani, joining her brother Rahul Gandhi’s initiative.
Ahead of her arrival, Gandhi posted on X that “the biggest right the common people have in democracy is the right to vote”, accusing the ruling coalition of enabling “vote theft”. She described the march as a fight to protect the integrity of elections.
Her visit coincides with Hartalika Teej, a festival in which married women in Bihar fast and pray for the long lives of their husbands. Congress insiders say the timing is deliberate, signalling an outreach to women voters, long seen as a key constituency for chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The areas Gandhi will tour are considered strongholds of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). By bringing the march to north Bihar, Congress strategists hope to replicate their success in Shahabad during the last general election, where the NDA was routed.
