Nalanda: A married woman allegedly faced an attempted gang rape in Bihar’s Nalanda district after a group of men reportedly accosted her on a public road and tried to sexually assault her. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case, while a search is underway for another suspect.
The incident took place in the Noorsarai police station area of Nalanda, the home district of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. According to police officials, the woman filed a complaint after the alleged assault attempt, following which the accused allegedly circulated a video of the incident on social media.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, the incident occurred on the evening of March 26 when she had stepped out of her house to buy ration. The woman, who lives with her in-laws in a village under Noorsarai police limits, said she was returning home when three youths from the same village allegedly intercepted her, taking advantage of the darkness.
The woman alleged that the men grabbed her and attempted to rape her on the roadside. She managed to resist and struggled to free herself while repeatedly pleading with the accused to let her go. According to the complaint, one of the men held her from behind while another allegedly grabbed her hand.
Police said villagers eventually intervened and helped the woman escape from the accused.
The victim lodged a formal complaint at the police station on March 27. Soon after the case was registered, the accused allegedly circulated a 42-second video of the incident in three separate clips on social media. The viral footage purportedly shows several men holding the woman and dragging her while she repeatedly begs them to release her. The video also reportedly captures the accused asking others to record the incident while hurling abuses.
Nalanda Sadar DSP-2 Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal said a special police team conducted raids in the village and arrested two accused, identified as Ashok Yadav and Mahalu Mahto alias Navneet Kumar Narottam. Efforts are underway to arrest the third named accused, Ravikant Kumar.
“Those responsible for outraging the dignity of the woman will not be spared under any circumstances,” the officer said, adding that raids are being conducted at possible hideouts to apprehend the remaining suspect.

The incident has also drawn political reactions. Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, criticised the state government on social media platform X. In her post, she alleged that such incidents reflected a breakdown of law and order and questioned the claims of women’s safety in the state.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
