Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Saturday reviewed the city’s revenue administration, with Municipal Commissioner holding a video conference with Executive Officers and revenue staff from all zones to assess progress on property tax collection and mutation-related work.
The review focused on property tax collection, identification of new property tax assessees, commercial use of residential properties, and the disposal of pending mutation applications.
Property Tax Base Expansion Underway
Officials informed the meeting that revenue teams are contacting electricity consumers using mobile numbers obtained from the Energy Department to identify new properties that fall under the property tax net.
According to the officials, around 200 to 250 electricity consumers are being contacted every day as part of the exercise to identify new property tax assessees.
The Municipal Commissioner also directed officials to investigate cases where properties registered under the residential category are being used for commercial purposes.
Over 98% Pending Mutation Applications Cleared
The revenue wing reported that more than 98 per cent of pending mutation applications have been processed across the city’s municipal zones.
The Municipal Commissioner instructed officials to dispose of all applications pending for more than 35 days on a priority basis. He also directed that newly received applications be processed within the stipulated time frame to prevent future backlogs.
Zone-Wise Mutation Disposal Status
As of July 11, the zone-wise disposal of mutation applications was as follows:
- Azimabad Zone: 154 of 156 applications disposed of
- Bankipur Zone: All 169 applications disposed of
- Kankarbagh Zone: 166 of 171 applications disposed of
- Nutan Rajdhani Zone: 15 of 16 applications disposed of
- Patliputra Zone: All 173 applications disposed of
- Patna City Zone: All five applications disposed of
Revenue Collection to Be Strengthened
During the meeting, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to further strengthen the revenue collection mechanism by identifying all potential sources of revenue and ensuring regular action under the existing plan to improve property tax collection across the city.
