Saharsa: The festival of Chhath Puja, deeply rooted in faith and devotion, holds a special place in the hearts of millions across Bihar. Among them is Bollywood actress Sanchita Basu, who travelled from Mumbai to her ancestral village in Salakhua block of Saharsa district to celebrate the festival with her family and community.
Known for her breakout performance in the web series Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar, Basu said she could never miss celebrating Chhath Puja, which she has observed with devotion since childhood. “I have grown up watching the rituals and hearing the songs of Chhath. The peace and energy I feel during this festival are beyond words,” she said.
Each year, the actress visits her grandfather’s village, Mahadev Math, to perform the rituals. This year, she took part in the ‘Kharna’ ceremony, one of the key observances of the festival, and expressed joy in following every traditional custom.
“The Kharna rituals are my favourite part of Chhath Puja,” she said. “There’s something divine about fasting all day and preparing the offering with pure devotion.”
Basu shared that offering arghya to the setting sun on the riverbank remains one of the most fulfilling moments of the festival for her. “Standing at the ghat and praying to the Sun God fills me with an indescribable sense of strength and peace,” she added.
The actress, who has gained recognition for her emotional and grounded performances, said that no matter where her career takes her, she will always return home to celebrate Chhath. “This is not just a festival for me—it’s a part of who I am as a daughter of Mithila,” she said with a smile.
