Gaya: The Bihar Education Department has withheld the June salaries of 89 government school headmasters in Gaya district for failing to meet targets for student APAAR ID generation.
The action follows a departmental review that found several schools had made little progress in creating the digital academic identity cards despite repeated instructions from education authorities.
District Education Officer (DEO) Krishna Murari Gupta said the affected schools have been given a final deadline of June 25 to achieve 100% APAAR ID coverage among enrolled students.
Review Finds Significant Delays
According to the district education office, a review conducted by the Bihar Education Project Council found that 89 schools had generated APAAR IDs for fewer than 40% of their students.
Officials described the performance as unsatisfactory and termed it a serious violation of departmental directives.
As a result, the June 2026 salaries of the concerned headmasters have been suspended with immediate effect.
Warning of Further Disciplinary Action
The DEO has instructed all affected schools to prioritise APAAR ID registration and complete the process by June 25.
He warned that failure to meet the deadline could result in stricter disciplinary measures against the responsible officials.
Education authorities also clarified that no additional reminders or extensions will be granted after the deadline.
Several Schools Reported Extremely Low Coverage
The review highlighted particularly poor progress in a number of schools across the district.
Among them were:
- Primary School Navagarh, Amas – 7.0%
- Primary School Sabal Bigha, Dobhi – 8.4%
- Primary School Noorpur Rajo Khaf, Gurua – 6.5%
- Primary School Babhandi, Wazirganj – 2.5%
Officials said 18 schools had recorded APAAR ID creation rates of less than 20%, raising concerns over compliance with government directives.
APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is a unique digital academic identity assigned to students under the National Education Policy framework.
The identifier helps maintain a lifelong digital record of a student’s educational journey, allowing academic achievements, certificates and other records to be securely stored and accessed.
The system is expected to play a key role in the implementation of several central and state government education initiatives.
Monitoring to Continue
Education officials said progress in APAAR ID generation will continue to be monitored closely over the coming days.
Schools that fail to achieve full registration by June 25 may face additional administrative and disciplinary action, according to the department.
