Patna: The Municipal Commissioner on Monday conducted a detailed inspection of Wards 15, 16, 17 and 18, accompanied by local councilors and civic officials, to review preparations related to rainwater drainage, sanitation, street lighting, road restoration and water supply projects.
During the visit, the inspection team covered several localities, including DVC Crossing, Lakshmi Market and New Jakkanpur. Inspection chambers were opened to verify the status of drain desilting and cleaning work. Officials reported that the condition of the drains and the cleaning work was satisfactory.
Review of Waterlogging Mitigation Measures
Officials informed the Municipal Commissioner that the Road Construction Department (RCD) has completed road construction work in the Jayaprakash Nagar area, while the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation has completed the construction of box drains. According to officials, these works are expected to prevent future waterlogging in the locality.
A similar assessment was made for the Purandarpur Dopulwa area, where BUIDCO has completed a box drain project. Officials stated that the long-standing issue of waterlogging in the area has been addressed through the new drainage infrastructure.
To further improve drainage, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to connect the drain at Azad Lane with the newly constructed box drain system.

Concerns Over Covered Drain in Jayaprakash Nagar
During the inspection, officials identified a potential waterlogging risk in Jayaprakash Nagar. They reported that an existing drain had been covered during the construction of a service lane alongside an RCD-built road near the railway line.
The Municipal Commissioner instructed officials to undertake night-time excavation of the affected road section to clean the underground drain and subsequently restore the road surface.
Additional Drainage Measures Ordered at Teenpulwa
The inspection also included the Teenpulwa area, where three Hume pipes currently facilitate drainage near an agricultural farm.
To improve the outfall system, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to correct the levels of all existing Hume pipes and install an additional pipe to strengthen water flow during the monsoon season.
